How To Do Great Things For God: part 2

How To Do Great Things For God: part 2

Fast
Nehemiah Was fasting and praying before God. (Nehemiah 1:4)

Therefore make sure that you add fasting to your praying before you begin doing what God has called you to do like Nehemiah.

Ensure that you also fast and pray whenever you encounter challenges as you try to fulfill your purpose because some problems can only be solved by combining prayer with fasting for Jesus said, This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. (Matthew 17:21)

The type of fasting that you can do is based on God's leading and your experience with fasting. For example, if you have never fasted, consult your doctor and then miss lunch one day and spend that time praying.
This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting Matthew 17:21

How to fight discouragement with Bible verses

How To Do Great Things For God: part 1

Has God placed something great in your heart for you to do?

Are you overwhelmed by the challenges that are trying to stop you from accomplishing the purposes of God for your life?

If you are, emulate Nehemiah who did fulfilled his God's purpose for his life by rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem since that was What God had placed in his heart to do in Jerusalem (Nehemiah 2:12) by following these steps:

Pray
Nehemiah Was fasting and praying before God. (Nehemiah 1:4)

Nehemiah Prayed to Confess His Sins
Nehemiah prayed and confessed The sins that we the children of Israel have sinned against You. My ancestors and I have sinned against you for we have been corrupt and broken your commandments. (Nehemiah 1:6-7)

Therefore pray and ask God to forgive you your sins so that you can have a clean slate as you start doing what God has called you to do since you will need His help for the Bible tells us that The Lord’s hand is not shortened that it cannot save you, or His ear heavy that He cannot hear you. But your iniquities have separated you from your God and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He will not hear. (Isaiah 59:1-2)

Pray for Favor
Nehemiah prayed for favor from the King because he was going to ask him for leave of absence from his job as the King's cupbearer, he was also going to ask for a passport so that he could travel to Jerusalem and wood for the rebuilding process. (Nehemiah 2:4-8)

Nehemiah prayed, O Lord I ask please listen to the prayer of Your servant and let me prosper today. I pray that you will give me mercy in the king's eyes. (Nehemiah 1:11)

God heard his prayer and granted him favor because, he not only received what he asked for, he was also given armed escort. (Nehemiah 2:9)

Therefore as you pray ask for favor from all those you will interact with as you do what God has called you to do. These might include immigration officials if you will also need a passport like Nehemiah and bank officials if you will need a loan.

Pray the Promises of God
Nehemiah prayed, Remember O Lord Your Word which You gave Moses saying that if we return to You and keep Your commandments You will gather us from where You scattered us because of our sins. (Nehemiah 1:8-9)

Therefore as you pray remind God of some of the promises in His Word that pertain to your situation.

How to know and fulfill your life's purpose

Nehemiah Prayers: part 4

The Nehemiah Prayers

Nehemiah was told by Shemaiah to meet him inside the temple because some people were coming to kill him.

Nehemiah responded by saying he would not go into the temple to save his life.

Nehemiah then discerned that Shemaiah had not been sent by God but rather, he had been hired by his enemies Tobiah and Sanballat to make this prophecy. This prophecy was supposed to make him afraid so that he could go to hide in the temple and sin as this would give them something to reproach him with. (Nehemiah 6:10-13)

Nehemiah's responded to this event by praying the following prayer:

Nehemiah' Prayer for Justice
Heavenly Father I ask You to remember Tobiah and Sanballat because of all the evil works they have done. Remember also the prophetess Noadiah and all the other prophets who tried to make me afraid. (Nehemiah 6:14)

Tips
This is a great prayer to pray when you have been wronged by people with spiritual authority because it stops you from rebuking them with your mouth as you ask God to remember all the evil they have done to you and punish them Himself.

Therefore say this prayer instead of touching pastors, prophets and other servants of God with bad words from your mouth even if they have wronged you because He tells us, "Touch not mine anointed and do my prophets no harm." (Psalm 105:15)
God is fighting those who are fighting against me Psalm 35:1

Emulate David who did not dare kill King Saul even when Saul walked into the cave where he was hiding to help himself for David said, God forbid that I should stretch out my hand against the Lord's anointed. (1 Samuel 24:6)  Recognize the gravity of this decision because David was living in caves at that time because King Saul with his army were chasing him around the country trying to kill him for no reason.

Therefore say this Nehemiah Prayer and others like Fight against those who are fighting against me (Psalm 35:1) and leave God to deal with them as you continue doing what He has called you to do.

Let God Himself punish his erring servants in the way He deems best. In David's case it was ensuring that Saul, his three sons, his armor bearer and all his men died together on one day. (1 Samuel 31:6)

Side Note
This incidence of Nehemiah and Shemaiah also teaches us not to accept and act on prophecies about our lives before first discerning whether or not they are from God. If you are not able to discern, pray and ask God to reveal to you whether the prophesy is from Him.

Nehemiah Prayers: part 3

The Nehemiah Prayers

When Nehemiah and the Israelites finished rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem and they were just left with hanging the doors, their enemies Sanballat and Geshem sent Nehemiah a message inviting him to meet them in Ono so that they could harm him.

Nehemiah responded by saying he could not meet them because he was doing a great work.

However, his enemies were persistent and they sent him this message 4 times. His response was the same all the time and Sanballat therefore decided to adopt a different strategy and send him a letter instead.

The letter claimed that Nehemiah and the Jews were rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem so that they could rebel. They also claimed that Nehemiah had appointed prophets to proclaim that he was the king. Sanballat said these issues would be reported to the king and he therefore invited Nehemiah to come so that they could talk about it.

Nehemiah responded to the contents of the letter by stating that they were not doing any of the things written in the letter since those were figments of their figments of Sanballat's imagination.

Nehemiah also recognized the intention of their enemies which was to make them afraid so that their hands would be weakened and unable to finish their work. (Nehemiah 6:1-9) He therefore also responded to the letter by saying the following prayer:

Nehemiah's Prayer for Strength
Heavenly Father I ask You to strengthen my hands. (Nehemiah 6:9)

Tips
This prayer is perfect for praying when you are facing opposition that wants to weaken you so that you do not finish the work that God has told you to do.

Therefore say it to ask God to strengthen you regardless of whether the enemy wants to weaken you by making you afraid or anxious or broke.

Combine saying this prayer with meditating, confessing and believing Scriptures that neutralized the weapon that the enemy is using to try and weaken you. One great Scripture is No weapon formed against me shall prosper. (Isaiah 54:17)
No weapon formed against me shall prosper Isaiah 54:17

Side Note
It is amazing to note that the enemy does not give up. The enemies of Nehemiah had harassed them through the entire building process but Nehemiah and the Israelites had A mind to work(Nehemiah 4:6) They therefore pushed through the opposition until they finished building the entire wall up to its full height. Now that they were just left with hanging the gates, you would have expected the enemy to give up but they were not about to let up.

Therefore if you are facing stiff opposition as you do God's work, do not look at your enemies and ask or expect them to stop harassing you.

Instead look up to God and ask Him to strengthen you so that you can complete doing EVERYTHING that He has place in your heart to do.

After praying, expect Him to strengthen you because God gives power to the weak. (Isaiah 40:29)
God gives power to the weak Isaiah 40:29

How to Rebuild Your Life

How to rebuild your life

When the Israelites were trying to rebuild Jerusalem, their enemies mocked them by asking, "Can they make building stones from the heaps of burnt rubbish?(Nehemiah 4:2)

The answer to this question was a resounding YES because God was with them.

We see this from the fact that Nehemiah and the Israelites finished building the walls of Jerusalem in just 52 days (Nehemiah 6:15) and this accomplishment made even their enemies realized that it was the work of God. (Nehemiah 6:16)

Therefore, if your life has collapsed and you are surrounded by "heaps of burnt rubbish" and your enemies are asking if you can rebuild your life, the answer for you is also a resounding YES if God is with you.
How to Rebuild Your Life
If you want to rebuild your life after any distressing life situation, follow these steps:
1. Invite Jesus into your life
Invite Jesus into your life by saying with your mouth that, "Jesus is Lord" and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead when He died for our sins and you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

How to rebuild your life

2. Pray for God's help
Pray and ask God to help you rebuild your life. You can also combine prayer with fasting like Nehemiah (Nehemiah 1:4) since that is the only recipe that can remove some unwanted situations from your life.
How to rebuild your life.

3. Transform Burnt Rubbish into Building Stones
To transform the heaps of burnt rubbish in your life into building stones, you have to shift your thinking.

Therefore instead of seeing the remnants of your destroyed health, finances, family, career or whatever else has been destroyed in your life as burnt rubbish, see them as building stones

For example if you are trying to rebuild your health after an amputation, see your amputated leg not as burnt rubbish but as a building stone.
To do this you can begin exercising and even consider taking part in the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports (IWAS) World Games.

If you are trying to rebuild your finances after debts, see you empty bank account not as burnt rubbish but as a building stone.
To do this you can begin a free blog and start sharing how you moved from $0 to $1,000 by selling stuff on Ebay.

If you are trying to rebuild your family after a divorce, see you empty home not as burnt rubbish but as a building stone.
To do this you can begin praying for your ex-spouse.

If you are trying to rebuild your career after being sacked, see you empty work hours not as burnt rubbish but as a building stone.
To do this you can begin by enrolling in a day course to update your skills.

4. Begin Rebuilding
Nehemiah and the Israelites rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem by placing one building stone on top of another. Therefore understand that the rebuilding of your health, finances, family, career or whatever else is lying in shambles is  a step by step process.

This  means that you first do one simple thing and then build on that simple thing until you achieve you finish the entire rebuilding process.

For example if you are trying to rebuild your health after it has been destroyed by cancer or AIDS, you can lay the first building stone by beginning to eat healthy foods. Then, build on this stone by beginning to exercise regularly.

If you are trying to rebuild your finances after they were destroyed by debts or bankruptcy, you can lay the first building stone by not buying non-essential items like jewelry. Then, build on this stone by getting a second job.

If you are trying to rebuild your family after it was destroyed by divorce, you can lay the first building stone by sending your ex-spouse cards on special occasions. Then, build on this stone by calling them to wish them well.

If you are trying to rebuild your career after it was destroyed by losing your job, you can lay the first building stone by updating your skills. Then, build on this stone by applying for another job.

5. Have a Mind to Work
Having a A mind to work (Nehemiah 4:6) is a  very important step because it helped Nehemiah and the Israelites finish building the walls of Jerusalem in the midst of strong opposition.

Therefore focus your mind on the rebuilding process.

If your mind is drawn from the rebuilding process by the words and actions of  people who do not want you to rebuild your life, refocus is back to the rebuilding process by praying and asking God to deal with them like Nehemiah. (Nehemiah 4:4-5)

Emulate Nehemiah and do not waste your time trying  to reason with the people who are doing their level best to ensure you do not rebuild your life. Simply present the problems they are bringing into your life to God in prayer and then continue rebuilding your life step by step.

6. Believe You Can Do It
You have to believe that you can rebuild your life if you want to rebuild it successfully.

Therefore meditate on Scriptures like I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13) every day to strengthen your self.
I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me Philippians 4:13

7. Commit Your Works to God
Ensure that you also Commit all your works to the Lord and your thoughts will be established. (Proverbs 16:3)

Committing your rebuilding work to the Lord will also help you have peace of mind especially if your enemies declare that the things you are rebuilding can be destroyed by a fox. (Nehemiah 4:3)

For example if you are rebuilding your life after addiction and your haters say that it only takes a little thing for you to resume using the addictive substance, commit your health to God and ask Him to keep the little foxes that destroy the vines (Song of Solomon 2:15) away from your vineyards.
Commit your works to the Lord and your thoughts will be established Proverbs 16:3

Nehemiah Prayers: part 2

The Nehemiah Prayers

When the Israelites returned to Jerusalem after living through captivity in Babylon, their lives were not easy. They were living in distress and their neighbors looked down on them.

Their city was also not in a good state since the walls of Jerusalem were broken and her gates were burnt leaving them utterly defenseless. (Nehemiah 1:1-3)

When Nehemiah and the Israelites begun rebuilding the walls of their city Jerusalem, Sanballat, who was one of their enemies became infuriated and he mocked them infront of his colleagues and the army of Samaria by asking, "What are these weak, miserable Jews doing? Will they strengthen themselves? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they complete building these walls in a day? Can they make building stones from the heaps of burnt rubbish?(Nehemiah 4:1-2)

Tobiah who was another enemy of the Jews, added to his reproach by saying, "Whatever wall they build, it will be broken down by a fox.(Nehemiah 4:3)

In response, Nehemiah prayed the following prayer:
Nehemiah Prayer for Vengeance
Heavenly Father, listen to how our enemies mock us and turn their reproach back to their own heads. Let them experienced captivity by having all their possessions taken away from them and being carried off to a foreign land. Do not cover the evil things they do and do not forget their sins. (Nehemiah 4:4-5)
It is God who avenges for Me 2 Samuel 22:48

Tip
This prayer is great for praying when you are being mocked as you try to rebuild your life after living through a stressful situation like losing your family or finances.

This prayer is also perfect for praying when you are tempted to avenge your mocking enemies yourself. It helps reduce the pain you feel when you are being mocked by people who may not have through the horrendous circumstances you have lived through. It is also beneficial because when you ask God to be your Avenger and leave the matter in His Hands, you are then able to continue focusing on rebuilding the walls of your life.

Therefore, Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine; I will repay', saith the Lord. (Romans 12:19)

How to pray effectively

The Nehemiah Prayers: part 1

The Nehemiah Prayers

Nehemiah's Prayers is a Nehemiah Bible study which examines the prayers that he prayed so that we can pray his prayers when we are in similar situations. Praying these Nehemiah Prayers will add more power to our prayers since the Word of God is the sword of the spirit. (Ephesians 6:17)

Nehemiah's Prayer for Confession
O Lord God of heaven, You are the great and awesome God Who keeps Your covenant and mercy with those who love You and follow Your commandments, I ask you to listen to the prayer that I pray before You today.

I confess the sins that my ancestors and myself have sinned against you. We have behaved corruptly and not kept the commandments that you gave us.

Heavenly Father I ask you to forgive us and remember Your Word which says that if we return to You and keep your commandments, you will gather us even if we have been scattered. (Nehemiah 1:5-9)

Tip
This is a great prayer to pray when you need God to restore the things you have lost because of the sins you and your people have committed.

It is also a great prayer to pray when you need God's help like Nehemiah did for The Lord's hand is not shortened so that it cannot save and His ear is not heavy that it cannot hear. But your sins have separated you from God and hidden his face from you so that He will not hear. (Isaiah 59:1-2)

Nehemiah's Prayer for Favor
O Lord, I ask You to listen to the prayer which I Your servant pray and grant me favor in the sight of this person. (Nehemiah 1:11)

Tip
This is a great prayer to pray when you need God to intervene in your situation so that you and your requests can be viewed favorably by a person in authority like your employer or a Government official.

A Mind to Work

Nehemiah and the Israelites experienced a lot of opposition when they were working. However they finished their job because they had a mind to work(Nehemiah 4:6) This means that the people focused on their jobs.

Therefore regardless of the problems you are facing at your workplace, focus your mind on your work and not on the problems surrounding you.

Pray as Nehemiah did (Nehemiah 4:4-5 and 4:9) and ask God to deal with the problematic people and then continue focusing on your work.

In addition, the people also Set their hands to the work. (Nehemiah 2:18)

Therefore, also focus you physical energy on doing your work.

The Christian Tongue part 10

The Christian Tongue

Lying is another thing we should not use our tongue to do because These are the 6 things that the Lord hates:
Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
A proud look

A lying tongue

Hands that shed innocent blood

A heart that devises wicked imaginations

Feet that are swiftly run to mischief

A false witness that speaks lies

A person who sows discord among brethren. (Proverbs 6:16-19)
You shall not lie Exodus 20:16

Notice that the tongue can be used to do 3 of the things that God hates - sowing strife between people who are living in peace (A person who sows discord among brethren)speaking lies when you are a witness (A false witness that speaks liesand lying (A lying tongue).

God really hates this lying because He has also included it in the 10 commandment for He tells us, "You shall not bear false witness against you neighbor" (Exodus 20:2-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21)

Therefore do not use your tongue to lie because it is an abomination to the Lord.
