Position Yourself: Jochebed and Moses

To position yourself is to go to the place where you are best able to solve your problems.

Jochebed Positioned Moses in the Nile
Jochebed's stressful problem was the fact that she had given birth to Moses after Pharaoh had issued a decree that all Hebrew babies should be thrown into the river to drown. (Exodus 1:22)

She therefore hid him in the house until he was 3 months old and when she could not hide him anymore, she put him in an ark made from bulrushes that she had daubed with asphalt and pitch to make waterproof and placed him by the river bank. (Exodus 2:1-3)

The Bible does not tell us exactly why she placed Moses in the River Nile but the following facts suggest to me that her act was one of strategic positioning:

1. Moses was found and adopted by Pharaoh's daughter who was coming to bathe in the river. (Exodus 2:5)
2. Moses' sister Miriam happened to be nearby and she asked Pharaoh's daughter if she could get her a Hebrew nurse to take care of Moses. (Exodus 2:7)

The result of positioning Moses in the river was that her problem of her son being put to death as per Pharaoh's decree was solved since his daughter ordered her to "Nurse this child for me and I will pay you." (Exodus 2:9)

Therefore regardless of your stressful situation, pray for God's guidance so that you can position yourself in the place where you are best able to solve your problem.
