2019 New Year Resolutions for Christians

10 Essential New Year Resolutions and Ideas for Christians

The following are 2019 New Year resolutions for Christians who have not incorporated these practices into their lives:

1. Pray every day

Pray every day because we are told to Pray without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

To improve your prayer life read How to Pray Effectively.

Pray without ceasing 1 Thessalonians 5 17

2. Read your Bible every day

Read your Bible every day because All Scripture is inspired by God and it is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and instructing in righteousness so that the man/woman of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

All Scripture is inspired by God and it is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and instructing in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3 16

3. Do what the Bible says

Do what the Bible says for we are told to Be doers of the Word and do not deceive yourselves by being just hearers. (James 1:22)

To do this begin by obeying the 10 commandments and to help you do this read How to Work Out Your Own Salvation.

4. Go to Church on Sunday

Go to Church on Sunday because we are instructed Do not forsake the assembling together of ourselves. (Hebrews 10:25)

Let us not give up assembling together. Hebrews 10:25

5. Tithe

Give 10% of your income to your Church because God tell us to Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so that there may be food in My house. (Malachi 3:10)

Bring all the tithes and I will pour out blessings, rebuke the destroyer and ensure that fruit is produced. Malachi 3: 10-11

6. Love God

Love God because Jesus taught that it was the greatest commandment  for He said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. (Mark 12:30)

To love God do the following:
* Keep the commandments since Jesus said, If you love Me, keep My commandments. (John 14:15)
* Praise and worship God.
* Use your gifts and talents to serve God for we are told to Let your light shine before people so that they see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
Let your light shine before people so that they see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5 14-16

7. Love your neighbor

Love your neighbor because Jesus taught that the second greatest commandment is You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Mark 12:31)

When Jesus was asked, "Who is my neighbor?" (Luke 10:29), He taught the parable of the Good Samaritan to show that your neighbor is anyone who needs your help. (Luke 10:25-37)

Therefore, love your neighbor by helping someone in need.

8. Love yourself

Love yourself because the second greatest commandment hinges on doing this for you are to love your neighbor just as you love yourself.

To love yourself, do the following:
* Accept yourself as a child of God.
* Create time to eat, relax and sleep for Jesus said to His disciples, "Come by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while." Because there were many coming and going and they did not even have time to eat. (Mark 6:31)
* Do the things that make you happy as long as they do not break God's commandments. For example if you love reading, create time to read every day.

9. Spread the Gospel
Spread the Gospel because Jesus said, Go and make disciples of all the nations. (Matthew 28:19)

To spread the Gospel do the following:
* Tell the people around you about Jesus
* Support ministries that are spreading the Gospel like this one with your time, money and other resources.

Christian goal setting for New Year resolutions

To incorporate these Christian practices into your life you have to set them as your New Year resolutions or life goals.

To do this follow these goal setting steps:

1. Identify your goal

The first step of setting New Year resolutions and other life goals is identifying what you want to achieve.

For example you can decide that you want to pray every day  and read your Bible every day.

2. Create a good goal
The second step of setting New Year resolutions and other life goals is modifying the goals to make them good goals.

A good goal defines the Amount you want to achieve, how Long it will take you to achieve it and How you will get it.

Therefore you can modify your Christian New Year goals to:  I will pray every day for 15 minutes and read 1 chapter of the Bible every day by waking up 1 hour earlier each morning.

For example to achieve your Christian New Year goals, you can create an action plan like the following:

5-6 am Wake up, Bible reading and prayer.

6-7 am Shower, eat breakfast and leave for work.

7-8 am Commute to work.
