How To Get Saved

How to Get Saved

Have you been wondering "How do I get saved?"

If you have this blog post will answer the question "How to get saved?"

If you have other questions, leave them  in the comments section.

How Do I Get Saved?

For ease of explanation, I would like to remind you of an examination which has both a theory test and a practical test.

In the theory exam, you simply write down the  answers you have been taught.
But, in the practical exam, you do something to show that you have understood what you have been taught.

The Theory of Salvation
The theory of salvation is found in Romans 10:9 which tells us that If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved.

Therefore to do this Theory of Salvation, say with your mouth that "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that when He died for our sins God raised Him from the dead. (Romans 10:9)

If you have spoken the words "Jesus is Lord" with your mouth and you believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, YOU ARE SAVED.

How to Work Out the Practical Side of your Salvation

After getting saved do the following:
1. Read your Bible every day
2. Pray every day
3. Attend a Church that preaches the Bible (Hebrews 10;25)
4. Get baptized (Acts 2:38)

The Practical of Salvation
The practical of salvation is doing what your Lord and Master Jesus Christ expects you to do.

However, as you do the things that are expected of you know that the Bible says "For by grace you have been saved through faith and that not of yourselves for it is the gift of God and not of works in case anyone should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9) T
his means that these works you are doing are not what makes you saved because you have already been saved by your confession and your belief (faith).

Note that the Bible also tells you to Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. (Philippians 2:12) This means that you should live your life how God expects you to live as a follower of Jesus Christ.

To know how to do this, you have to read your Bible and do as it says. A good place to begin with this practical aspect of living out your salvation is Exodus 20 which tells us the 10 Commandments.

The 10 Commandments from Exodus 20

1. You shall not have other gods.

I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
To keep this commandment: Decide that you will only pray and worship the God of the Bible through His Son Jesus Christ.
The first 1 commandment You shall not have other gods Exodus 20:3

2. You shall not make idols.

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
To keep this commandment: Remove all images, statues of other gods from your home, car, business and all the properties that you control.
The second 2 commandment You shall not make graven images Exodus 20:4

3. You shall not use the name of the Lord your God in vain.

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

To keep this commandment: Stop using phrases that involve the name of God or His Son Jesus when you are exclaiming or cussing or any other purpose that does not involve praying or talking about God reverently. To learn more read How to Fight a Foul Mouth with Bible Verses.

The third 3 commandment You shall not use the name of your God in vain Exodus 20:7

4. Keep the Sabbath day holy.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
To keep this commandment: Decide that Sunday will be a holy day when you will spend time in Church praying and praising God. If you must work on Sunday, commit another day to God.
The fourth 4 commandment Keep the Sabbath day holy Exodus 20:8

5. Honor your father and your mother.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

To keep this commandment: Treat your parents respectfully.

The fifth 5 commandment Honor your father and your mother Exodus 20:12

6. You shall not murder.
13 Thou shalt not kill.

To keep this commandment: Do not kill or support the killing of human beings in any form from abortion to euthanasia.

The sixth 6 commandment You shall not murder Exodus 20:13

7. You shall not commit adultery.

14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

To keep this commandment: Do not have a physical or emotional relationship with someone who is married to someone else.

The seventh 7 commandment You shall not commit adultery Exodus 20:14

8. You shall not steal.

15 Thou shalt not steal.

To keep this commandment: Do not take something that does not belong to someone else.

The eighth 8 commandment You shall not steal Exodus 20:15

9. You shall not lie.

16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

To keep this commandment:
Do not tell direct untruths or lie by omission.

The ninth 9 commandment You shall not lie Exodus 20:16

10. You shall not covet.

17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

To keep this commandment: Do not yearn for things that belong to other people. If you would like to have similar things pray and ask God to give them to you.

The tenth 10 commandment You shall not covet your neighbor's things Exodus 20:17

How Do I Work Out My Own Salvation?
To work out your salvation if you have big problems with keeping some of the commandments do the following:

1. Do not give up on salvation
Commit to remaining saved and do not give up and say that it is impossible for you to live saved because With God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)
With God all things are possible Matthew 19:26

2. Pray for help
Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and ask God to help you overcome the challenges that make it difficult for you to keep His commandments.
Pray without ceasing 1 Thessalonians 5:17

How to Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. (Philippians 2:12)

3. Focus on one commandment
Focus all your physical and mental efforts on overcoming the challenges that stop you from keeping one commandment at a time.

For example, if you have a problem with keeping commandments number 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10, you
can begin with commandment #3 and focus all your efforts on it until you stop misusing God's name.

Do not let yourself drown in guilt even if you are still breaking the other commandments as you work on breaking the habit of cussing with God's name.

(Please note I am not condoning breaking God's commandments I am just saying if you hmany deeply ingrained bad habits or you are in bondage to many types of sin, you will have higher chances of success if you focus all your efforts on breaking one bad habit at a time rather than if they try to break all the bad habits at the same time.)

Therefore if as you work on breaking the habit of using God's name in vain, if you find that you are still lying, do not let the guilt stop you from continuing to work on breaking the habit of misusing God's name.

Ask God to forgive you and then continue working on not misusing God's name until you break the habit completely.

How to Fight a Foul Mouth with Bible Verses 2nd Edition teaches you the awesome Bible verses you can pray as spiritual warfare prayers, say as Christian affirmations and reflect on as Christian meditations to help you sanitize your speech.

Once you succeed, move on to the next commandment that you have a problem keeping.

For example, if you have an problem respecting your parents because of the things they did to you, ask God to heal your emotional wounds so that you can treat them respectfully.

As you struggle with forgiving your parents and releasing the hurt that makes you speak rudely to them, do not give up salvation even if you are still breaking commandments 7, 8, 9 and 10. Just focus all your efforts on commandment 5 until you get it right.
Christian Emotional Healing teaches you how to heal emotional wounds using principles from the Bible and examples of people in the Bible who lived through emotionally painful situations like Joseph.

Once you can talk and treat your parents respectfully, move on to commandment #7 and break off all physical and emotional relationships you have with people who are not married to you.

This can also take time especially if you have been in a long term adulterous relationship but commit to dealing with it. Stop all communication with that person and ask God to help you erase their memories from your heart, mind and body.

Once again, as you struggle with releasing and forgetting the person you had an affair with, do not feel unduly guilty and backslide because you are still breaking commandments 8, 9 and 10. Just focus all your efforts on obeying commandment 7 until you break off that relationship completely.

Once you no longer entertain thoughts about that married person, move on to commandment #8 and stop taking things which are not yours.

Follow this method of working on one sin at a time until you break all the chains that bind you to it until you are totally free from all the things that stop you from obeying all the 10 Commandments.
How to Fight for your Marriage with Bible Verses 2nd Edition teaches you the awesome Bible verses you can pray as spiritual warfare marriage prayers, say as Christian marriage affirmations and reflect on as Christian marriage meditations to protect your union with your spouse.

Please share this blog post with people who are hesitant about getting saved because "they know themselves".

These might be people who are tied up in lifestyles that involve breaking many of God's commandments and they just do not see how they can stop doing all the sins they do at once when they get saved.

As a final note, I'd like to say that God can instantly deliver anyone from all the issues that tie them to various sins. But sometimes, He allows us to work our way through the issues that are holding us back so that we can learn the lessons they need to learn and gain wisdom that we can use to help others who are facing similar issues.

We are not ignorant of his devices
