Position Others: The Lame Beggar

Position Others: The Lame Beggar

The Beggar was Positioned at the Beautiful Gate

The Bible tells us about a man who was born crippled and was carried each day to the Beautiful gate of the Temple to beg for alms.

Peter and John healed this lame man and solved his problem while he was at his strategic position by the Beautiful gate. (Acts 3:1-10)

Therefore emulate the people who carried this crippled man to the Beautiful Gate and assist people in stressful problems that they cannot solve themselves by placing them in strategic places where they can receive solutions to their problems.

Position Yourself: King Jehoshaphat

Position Yourself: King Jehoshaphat

King Jehoshaphat Positioned His Army
When King Jehoshaphat and the Israelites were attacked by several armies and they did not know what they could do to defend themselves, they consulted God and He told them to do the following 5 things.

These 5 instructions are still relevant today and you can also do these same things if you are in a stressful situation after praying for His guidance:
1. Do not be afraid. (2 Chronicles 20:15)

2. Do not be dismayed because of these armies because the battle is not yours, it is God's. (2 Chronicles 20:15)
Therefore do not be disheartened or unnerved because of the size, number or ferocity of the enemies and problems attacking you.

3. Go and face them. (2 Chronicles 20:16)
Do not run away from your problems.

4. Position yourselves. (2 Chronicles 20:17)
Put yourself in the place where you are best able to solve your stressful problem.

For example if you need money to pay your bills, strategically position your services and products in an online or offline marketplace which is your battlefield for fighting poverty.

5. Stand still and see the salvation of God who is with you. (2 Chronicles 20:17)
After you have done all that you can do physically to solve your problem (e.g. positioning your products in the market place), and you have done all that you can do spiritually to solve your problem (e.g. praying, putting on the armor of God) STAND STILL (Ephesians 6:13) IN YOUR STRATEGIC POSITION.

Resist the temptation to flee from your strategic position because of the deadly problems surrounding you. STAND STILL and wait for God to save you and do for you what you cannot do for yourself.

STAND STILL in your strategic position in submission to God Who is with you.
STAND STILL in your strategic position in resistance to the devil who is attacking you and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)

Position Yourself: Jochebed and Moses

Position Yourself: Jochebed and Moses

To position yourself is to go to the place where you are best able to solve your problems.

Jochebed Positioned Moses in the Nile
Jochebed's stressful problem was the fact that she had given birth to Moses after Pharaoh had issued a decree that all Hebrew babies should be thrown into the river to drown. (Exodus 1:22)

She therefore hid him in the house until he was 3 months old and when she could not hide him anymore, she put him in an ark made from bulrushes that she had daubed with asphalt and pitch to make waterproof and placed him by the river bank. (Exodus 2:1-3)

The Bible does not tell us exactly why she placed Moses in the River Nile but the following facts suggest to me that her act was one of strategic positioning:

1. Moses was found and adopted by Pharaoh's daughter who was coming to bathe in the river. (Exodus 2:5)
2. Moses' sister Miriam happened to be nearby and she asked Pharaoh's daughter if she could get her a Hebrew nurse to take care of Moses. (Exodus 2:7)

The result of positioning Moses in the river was that her problem of her son being put to death as per Pharaoh's decree was solved since his daughter ordered her to "Nurse this child for me and I will pay you." (Exodus 2:9)

Therefore regardless of your stressful situation, pray for God's guidance so that you can position yourself in the place where you are best able to solve your problem.

How to fight discouragement with Bible verses

Fight To Posses Your Promised Land

Fight To Posses Your Promised Land

God told Joshua, "Arise and cross the River Jordan with the Israelites to the land I am giving them." (Joshua 1:2)

However we see that even though He had given them the Promised Land, they had to fight many battles to posses it.

Therefore understand that even though God has given you something through the promises in the Bible, you may still have to fight spiritually to possess it and make it a reality in your life.

To fight these spiritual battles so that you can possess the Promises of God you have to put on the armor of God (Ephesians 6) which consists of:
1. Salvation (Get saved by saying with your mouth that "Jesus is Lord" and believing in your heart that when He died for our sins, God raised Him from the dead and you will be saved. {Romans 10:9})

2. Righteousness (Do the right thing in the sight of God at all times)

3. Truth (Speak the truth at all times)

4. Gospel (Read the Bible)

5. Word of God (Speak Scriptures over your situation)

6. Faith (Believe God's Word) For instance you may have to fight with faith by simply believing what God has told you in His Word even if the world and your reality tell you that it is impossible.

Therefore, do not be afraid of fighting and taking your Promised Land by spiritual force.

2 Kings 5 Bible Study: Elisha and Gehazi

When Naaman left Syria to come to Israel to see Elisha he carried with him 6000 gold shekels, 10 silver talents and 10 changes of clothing. (2 Kings 5:5)

After he was healed of leprosy, he tried to persuade Elisha to take a gift from him but Elisha refused. (2 Kings 5:15-16)

When Elisha's servant Gehazi saw that he had declined to received anything from Naaman he decided to pursue him and take something for himself. When Naaman saw him running after them he got down from his chariot and asked him if all was well.

Gehazi responded by lying that Elisha had sent him to ask for 1 silver talent and 2 changes of clothing.

Naaman complied and generously gave him 2 silver talents and 2 changes of clothing and asked 2 of his own servants to carry the gifts for Gehazi. (2 Kings 5:20-24)

After he had returned, Elisha asked Gehazi where he had gone and he lied by replying he had not gone anywhere.

Elisha responded by saying, "Did my heart not go with you when Naaman turned around to meet you?(2 Kings 5:26)
2 Kings 5 Lesson 7: Do not lie to God's servants.
God gives his true servants many powers and we can see from Elisha that he had the ability to heal and to know what was happening in a certain place without having to be there.

Therefore if you are dealing with a man or woman of God, do not waste your time or energy trying to lie to them or make a fool of them. Understand that God's spirit can help them and you will end up being the fool instead.

Elisha then asked Gehazi, "Is it time to receive money, clothing, olive groves, vineyards, sheep, oxen, male and female servants?"
2 Kings 5 Lesson 8: Discern the season.
The Bible tells us that There is a time for everything. (Ecclesiastes 3:1) Therefore understand that you have to discern the time or season you are in especially if you are in Christian ministry doing the work of God.

Since there is a time of season to get (Ecclesiastes 3:6) and a time that is not for running after things to get them, if you are not sure what season you are in, simply ask God so that you can do the right thing for the season you are in.

Gehazi's punishment for using Elisha's name to extort gifts from Naaman was meted out by Elisha who told him that "Naaman's leprosy shall cling to you and your descendants forever" and he developed leprosy. (2 Kings 5:26-27)
2 Kings 5 Lesson 9: Do not enrich yourself dishonestly.
The Bible tells us that Wealth obtained by dishonesty will be diminished. (Proverbs 13:11) This diminishing can come in many forms for example $1 million obtained dishonestly is greatly diminished in value if the person does not enjoy it after they develop an incurable cancer that is passed down in their genes to their children and grandchildren.

Therefore do not try to get more money, real estate or livestock by lying. This is more so if you are purporting to do the work of God and lying to gain more wealth. Understand that even if the people you are lying to do not know that you are lying for Naaman may not have suspected that Gehazi was lying, God knows that you are lying and He will punish you for it for He clearly says, "Thou shall not lie" (Exodus 20:16)

In addition, you should also be careful who you recieve gifts from because there must have a good reason why Elisha declined Naaman's gifts in the first place.

How to fight discouragement with Bible verses

2 Kings 5 Bible Study Naaman and God

2 Kings 5 Bible Study Naaman and God

After Naaman was healed by God through Elisha, he asked for 2 loads of earth so that he could sacrifice to the Lord God Almighty when he went back to his country.

He also asked for forgiveness because he had to accompany the King to the temple of the god Rimmon where he bowed down since the King leaned on his hand as he was the Commander-in-Chief of his army. (2 Kings 5:17-18)

Elisha's response to him was "Go in peace". (2 Kings 5:17-18)

We can see that Naaman was in a tight situation since had just discovered that the God of Elisha was the true God and he could not stop accompanying the king to his temple now that he had been healed of leprosy.

He thus needed God to understand his situation and grant him forgiveness which he was given.
2 Kings 5 Lesson 6: God knows your case.
Therefore if you have just realized that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ is the only true God but you are in a tight situation like Naaman where you must accompany someone to somewhere where they worship a false god understand that God knows your case and understands your situation.

To deal with that tricky situation I suggest that you:
1. Get saved today by saying with your mouth that "Jesus is Lord" and believing in your heart that when He died for our sins God raised Him from the dead and you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

2. Pray and ask God to show you how you can best extricate yourself from that situation.

If you belong to another faith and you do not know how you can go to a Christian Church because of your social situation, but in your heart you know that Jesus is Lord, do not stop worshiping Him in secret as you pray for His guidance about how to best deal with your situation. Know that He understands where you are socially, financially and in all other ways and trust Him to take care of you and make a way for you.

2 Kings 5 Bible Study: Naaman and Elisha

2 Kings 5 Bible Study: Naaman and Elisha

When Naaman went with his chariot and horses to Elisha's house in Israel, Elisha did not come out to meet him.

Prophet Elisha sent a messenger who told Naaman to wash himself 7 times in the River Jordan so that he could be cleansed of leprosy. (2 Kings 5:9-10)

Naaman became infuriated because Elisha was not doing things the way he expected them to be done for he thought the prophet would come out to meet him, call on his God and wave his hand over the part of his body that had leprosy. (2 Kings 5:11-12)
2 Kings 5 Lesson 3: God does not have to do things the way we expect Him to do them because His ways are way beyond our ways.
Therefore if you have been seeking God to do something for you, the way Naaman was seeking God to heal him by going to Elisha, do not think that He has to do things your way because He clearly tells us that "My thoughts are not your thoughts and your ways are not My ways ... For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than yours and My thoughts above your thoughts". (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Naaman as the commander of the Syrian army was a man who was used to having things done the way he expected them to be done. He was also accustomed to receiving a lot of respect and probably not used to having people send their servants to address him when he called on them.

In addition, Naaman thought that the River Jordan where he was being told to bathe in was inferior to the rivers of his home country probably because he had triumphed over the Israelites, for example in the raid that captured the girl who had told his wife about Elisha.

As a result of all these "slights" that he was receiving, Naaman turned and left in a huff. (2 Kings 5:12)
2 Kings 5 Lesson 4: Pride comes before a fall.
Therefore never let pride determine how you react especially if you are in a problematic situation and your pride cannot solve the problem for you.

Naaman was saved by the fact that his servants cared enough about him to reason with him respectfully for they said, "My father, if Elisha the prophet had asked you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more then when he tells you to simply 'Wash and be clean'?(2 Kings 5:13)

Naaman recognized their wisdom and heeded to their advice. He then went and washed himself in River Jordan 7 times and he was healed of leprosy. (2 Kings 5:14)
2 Kings 5 Lesson 5: Surround yourself with true friends.
Surround yourself with people who genuinely care about your well being and are not afraid to gently correct you when you begin steering your boat of-course like Naaman's servants who realized he had a lot more to lose by not following Elisha's instructions.
2 Kings 5 Lesson 10: Recognize good advise and act on it.
Naaman was wise enough to recognize good advise regardless of where it came from and act on it. We can see that from listening to his servants and doing what Elisha said even after he had decided to go.

We can also see another example of him acting on good advise when he listened to the words of the little servant girl in his house who told his wife that there was a prophet in Israel who could cure leprosy.

Therefore regardless of your station in life, Get wisdom (Proverbs 4:7) by praying for God's guidance and Holy Spirit and reading His word so that you are better able to recognize good advise when you hear it regardless of who is meting it.

ADDENDUM This message also applies to salvation since sin is a type of leprosy of the soul. God gives us a simple cure for this disease which is simply saying with your mouth that "Jesus is Lord" and believing with your heart that when He died for our sins God raised Him from the dead and you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

Therefore if you have been resisting the simple method of getting saved to secure your ticket to heaven, learn from Naaman and accept the simple method that God gives us to be cleansed of our spiritual leprosy.

How to fight discouragement with Bible verses

2 Kings 5 Bible Study Naaman and the Little Girl

Naaman was the commander of the Syrian army and he was highly esteemed by the Syrian King because the Lord God had given him victory in the battles he fought. (2 Kings 5:1)
2 Kings 5 Lesson 1: God can bless people who do not really know Him with victory in order to achieve His grand purposes.
However, Naaman was a leper. (2 Kings 5:1)

He was a great man, a man described by the Bible as a Mighty man of valor (2 Kings 5:1) the way the Angel of the Lord described Gideon BUT he had leprosy. A problem he could not solve.

But his problem could be solved by the Lord God who was giving him victories in the battles he faced in his life. He only needed someone to tell him that.

That someone who gave this mighty man of valor this piece of life changing info was a young Israelite girl who had been kidnapped from Israel by Naaman's army and brought to his home to serve as a maid for his wife. (2 Kings 5:2)

This young girl told Naaman's wife about Elisha, a prophet of the one true God who lived in Samaria and who could cure leprosy. (2 Kings 5:3) The result, Naaman ended up going to Israel where he was cured of leprosy.
2 Kings 5 Lesson 2: Do whatever you can to serve God wherever you are and irregardless of your circumstances.
This young girl could have decided to keep the info to herself and secretly gloat about Naaman's leprosy because after all he was the commander of the army that had raided her country, kidnapped her and brought her to serve as a maid in a foreign country away from her family and friends.

But she did not. She served God by telling her mistress, Naaman's wife, about God's prophet from her country who could cure leprosy.

Therefore regardless of how your life has changed for the negative (because it is always easy to serve God when your life has changed for the better) do whatever you can to serve God.

Understand also that sometimes God places you in places where you have access to powerful men and women who are doing great things in the world the way this young girl had access to Naaman's home and from your vantage point you can see that they have a very big problem.

A problem that many other people may not know the way the soldiers from Naaman's army may not have known that he had leprosy if he met them while covered in his armor or uniform.

And a problem so big that their education, skills, money, earthly power and connections cannot solve the way Commander in Chief Naaman with all his training, money, earthly power, connections and treatment from the best doctors in Syria could not solve his problem of incurable leprosy.

In such a situation, you have got to do whatever you can to tell this great man or woman about the Great God who can solve their big problem.

Even if you cannot speak to this famous man or woman directly, you can pray for guidance from God as to how you can tell him or her indirectly about the Lord God the way this young nameless girl told Naaman indirectly by telling his wife about Elisha.

If Egypt Wants You Back, Do Not Go Back

If Egypt Wants You Back, Do Not Go Back

Are you in a situation where the problems you left behind are trying to take you back the way Pharaoh and his army pursued the Israelites after they left slavery in Egypt?

If you are, decide that you will never go back to Egypt.

Keep your mind set on that decision of never going back regardless of the problems you are facing in your present and those that you can see looming in your future because this is the only way you will ever enter your Promised Land.

Learn from the mistake of the Israelites for they considered going back to Egypt when they saw Pharaoh and his army rushing towards them from the rear and the Red Sea sitting infront of them (Exodus 14:12) because this decision kept their generation from entering the Promised Land.

Therefore regardless of whether your Egypt is bondage to drugs or any other addictive behavior or whether your Egypt is something sinful you used to do to make money decide today that you will never go back to Egypt.

When the temptation to return to your familiar bad habits arises, instead of contemplating how you will go back, brainstorm how you will Go forward (Exodus 14:15) and PUSH (pray until something happens) through the Red Sea of problems in your present.

Moving to Your Promised Land: Part 2

Moving to Your Promised Land: Part 2

Another lesson that you can learn from the Israelites as they journeyed from their Bondage Land in Egypt to their Promised Land in Canaan is that you have to listen to the right people.

We can see that when the 12 spies returned from the Promised Land, 10 of them told the people that they could not possess it because even though it flowed with milk and honey, "The people who dwell there are strong, the cities are large and fortified and there are also giants. (Numbers 13:28)

They continued and said, We are not able to go up against those people because they are stronger that us ... That land devours its inhabitants and all the people we saw there were big. We even saw giants and we were like grasshoppers in our eyes and in their eyes. (Numbers 13:31-33)

Caleb who had also gone to the Promised Land as a spy, spoke up and gave the Israelites a different opinion for he told them, "Let us go at once and take possession of the land for we are well able to conquer it." (Numbers 13:30)

The Israelites chose to believe the discouraging words of the 10 spies rather than those of Caleb which were in alignment with God's Words for He had already told them that He would give them the whole land of Canaan. (Genesis 17:8)

As a result of choosing to believe the wrong people and refusing to believe God's word, this group never entered their Promised Land. (Numbers 14:26-38)

Therefore regardless of whether you are leaving a Bondage Land of addiction or a Bondage Land of any other kind, you have to listen to the people giving you a message that is in alignment with God's will for your life.

This means that even if 10 "specialists" who know your specific type of problem very well like the 10 spies who had been to the Promised Land, tell you that you cannot overcome your addiction or any other problem in your life and that you will live in bondage for the rest of your life, you have to refuse to believe them.

Chose to believe the one "specialist" like lone Caleb who tells you that even though there are gigantic challenges ahead of you, you can still overcome your addiction or the oppressing problem that you are facing because that message goes in alignment with the Word of God for Jesus tells us that I have come so that you may have an life and have it to the full. (John 10:10)

Since going through life addicted to substances or living under oppressive circumstances is not the full life that Jesus brought us, you have to choose who to believe even if several people have the authority to speak into your life based on if their message confirms God's word for your life.

To do this emulate the Bereans for they Received the word that Paul preached with readiness of mind, but searched the Scriptures every day to determine whether it was so. (Acts 17:11)

How to fight discouragement with Bible verses

Moving to Your Promised Land: Part 1

Moving to Your Promised Land: Part 1

Egypt in the Bible was a place of bitter bondage for the Israelites. (Exodus 1:14) They groaned to God because of their painful oppression and He sent them Moses to deliver them and take them to their Promised Land. (Exodus 3:8-10)

However the Israelites took 40 years to move from their Bondage Land to their Promised Land, a journey which could have taken them 11 days. (Deuteronomy 1:2)

The travails they experienced as they traveled through their wilderness to their Promised Land can teach us several lessons as we move from our Egypt which represents a stressful situation filled with suffering.
Travel Travails Lesson 1: Once you leave your Bondage Land you may have to go through a Wilderness Land before you enter your Promised Land
One of the Travel Travails lessons that the Israelites can teach us is that we often must go through a Wilderness Land when God delivers us from our Bondage Land before we can enter our Promised Land.

For example if God sends a Moses in the form of a Christian counselor or Pastor to deliver you from a Bondage Land of addiction to alcohol, drugs, pornography or any other substance or habit, understand that you will have to go through a Wilderness Land when you will experience problems like withdrawal symptoms before you can get to your Promised Land where you are free from the oppression of addiction.
Travel Travails Lesson 2: There will be different problems in the Wilderness Land
Another lesson we can learn is that the problems of the Wilderness Land will be different problems from those of the Bondage Land.

For example we can see that in the Wilderness Land the Israelites did not have meat to eat and they cried out saying, "Who will provide us with meat to eat? We remember the fish we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic." (Numbers 11:4-5)

This lack of meat was in contrast to the abundance of fish they ate in Egypt while they were suffering under the cruel oppression that made them cry out to God to deliver them.

Therefore if you are in a Wilderness Land do not compare those Wilderness problems with the ones you experienced in your Bondage Land. Learn the lessons that the problems in the Wilderness Land are teaching you so that you can move through it quickly.

For example if in your Wilderness Land you are facing financial problems and you cannot buy meat to eat as often as you would like, instead of reminiscing about the "good, old times" when you were suffering or living in sin but you had money to buy meat as often as you wanted, strengthen your faith muscles by deciding to believe that God can provide meat for you in your Wilderness Land even if it seems impossible because With God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)

Remind yourself that God did give the Israelites meat in the form of birds (Numbers 11:31) that flew from the sea when Moses had been wondering if they would have to slaughter all their cattle or fish all the fish from the sea to get meat to feed those 600,000 men in the wilderness with their families. (Numbers 11:21-22)

Therefore face your Wilderness Land problems with a good attitude knowing that they are to teach you something or develop something good in you. These problems may also be used by God to break old patterns in your psyche and teach you new ones. For instance the meat shortage could have been to break the Israelite's dependence on the Egyptians and teach them to trust God for all their needs.

Travel Travails Lesson 3: Leave your Bondage Land physically, mentally, spiritually and verbally
A second lesson we can learn from the Travel Travails of the Israelites is that when you leave a Bondage Land physically, you also must leave it mentally, spiritually and verbally.

We can see that the Israelites had physically left Egypt, but they had not left it mentally and verbally because when they encountered problems in the wilderness, they thought and talked about Egypt.

A good example of this is seen above when they said, "We remember the fish we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic." (Numbers 11:4-5).

In addition, when they were told that there were giants in their Promised Land they also talked about Egypt and said, "Let us choose a leader and return to Egypt". (Numbers 14:4)

This looking back made them unable to focus on moving forward because they still considered Egypt an option in their lives. It also made God very angry and He declared that they would not enter the Promised Land. (Numbers 14:23)

Therefore once your leave your Bondage Land physically, ensure that you also leave it mentally, spiritually and verbally. Focus on being free of the addictive substance and spend your energy thinking of how to overcome the problems you are facing instead of surrendering to the problems and thinking of returning to your Bondage Land.

Make up your mind that you will enter and enjoy your Promised Land even if you have been told that there are problems waiting for you there like loneliness since all your friends have abandoned you once you stopped engaging in the addictive behaviors with them or money problems if your livelihood was linked to your addiction.

Decide right now that going back to Egypt is not an option and set your mind on entering your addiction free Promised Land. To do this remind yourself each day of your goal of entering your addiction-free Promised Land because if the Israelites had set their minds on entering their Promised Land, they would not have considered choosing a leader to take them back to bondage in Egypt regardless of the size and number of giants in their Promised Land.

Keeping your mind set on your addiction-free Promised Land will also help you spend your time and energy praying and strategerizing how you will defeat the gigantic problems in their Promised Land instead of planning how you will retreat and go back to your Egypt.

In addition to keeping your mind set on entering your Promised Land, you should also set your mouth on enjoying your Promised Land by using Bible verses as affirmations any time you are tempted to say something about Egypt.

For example you can confess Psalm 27:13 and say I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living any time your Wilderness Land problems try to take you back to Egypt.
