The Meaning of Jehovah Sabaoth

The Meaning of Jehovah Sabaoth

Jehovah Sabaoth means The Lord of Hosts.

This name of God can be traced to 1 Samuel 17:45 when David went to fight Goliath for he said to him, "You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel." (1 Samuel 17:45)

David's words show us that he had placed his confidence in winning this battle in Jehovah Sabaoth unlike Goliath who had placed his confidence on his physical weapons of a sword, spear, and javelin.

How to increase your faith

To understand the feat that Jehovah Sabaoth helped David accomplish, you must remember that Goliath was a giant who was facing David while wearing the following:
1. A bronze helmet
2. A metal coat weighing around 125 lbs or 60 kg
3. A bronze armor covering his legs
4. A bronze javelin
5. A spear with an iron head weighing around 15 lbs or 7.5 kg (1 Kings 17:4-7)

David, on the other hand, had his staff, 5 smooth stones, and a sling (1 Kings 17:40) and yet he won this battle because of Jehovah Sabaoth.

Therefore, trust in Jehovah Sabaoth like David when you are being threatened by someone or something that is:
1. Bigger than you physically, monetarily and in any other way
2. More protected than you by physical, legal, political and other powers
3. More experienced than you

Yes, God can do it!

To be able to achieve similar feats like David with the help of Jehovah Sabaoth, you have to keep the following in mind:

Do Not Be Afraid
Do not be afraid of all the weapons your enemies are displaying to intimidate you because as David said, "The Lord does not save with a sword and a spear." (1 Kings 17:47)

This means that Jehovah Sabaoth does not need physical weapons to help you win your battles for it is Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord of Hosts. (Zechariah 4:6)

Therefore when you are faced with a gigantic weapons, pray and ask Jehovah Sabaoth to send His Spirit to help you win your battle.

Do Not Be Dismayed
Do not be shocked and distressed by the words your enemies say to you the way King Saul and the Israelite army were dismayed when they heard the words of Goliath. (1 Kings 17:11)

Instead, emulate David who expressed his faith in Jehovah Sabaoth when Goliath told him he would give his body to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field (1 Kings 17:44) for he replied saying, "I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel ... and today He will deliver you into my hand.(1 Samuel 17:45-46)

Therefore when your enemies taunt you with their words, first place your confidence in God and then express that confidence with your mouth since words have power for The power of life and death is in the tongue. (Proverbs 18:21)

For optimum results, quote Bible verses as you reply to your enemies since The sword of the spirit is the word of God. (Ephesians 6:17)

Then, put on all the other parts of the spiritual armor of God and face your enemies fearlessly as you attack them with your prayers and Jehovah Sabaoth will help you.
