The Bible tells us that We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this age and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12)
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines wrestling as fighting by holding and pushing or controlling something.
This suggests that we are fighting with evil spiritual powers that are holding us back from the right things or pushing us into wrong things or controlling us.
To wrestle with the devil and these evil spiritual powers, we do not use our physical body because Even though we walk in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh. (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)
This means that we do not fight physically with the devil and these evil spiritual powers because The weapons of our warfare are not carnal (2 Corinthians 10:4) or physical weapons.
The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but they are mighty in God for:
1. Pulling down strongholds
2. Casting down arguments
3. Casting down every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God
4. Bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)
This tells us that our wrestling match with the devil is taking place in our mind (brain) because the strongholds we are pulling down, the arguments and high things that are against the knowledge of God that we are casting down and the thoughts we are bringing captive to obey Christ are all in the mind (brain).
Therefore do not waste your time, energy and other resources trying to fight spiritual battles or wrestle with the devil physically.
Do Not Be ConformedTo win a wrestling match or spiritual battle with the devil, you have to use your mind.
The Bible tells us, Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind so that you may prove what is that good, acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2)
If you have watched a wrestling match you will find that to be declared the winner, one wrestler usually holds his opponent down in a certain position. Because he has been overpowered, the loser remains conformed to that submissive position on the mat.
So the devil/life can win a wrestling match in our lives by physically pinning us down in a situation that we do not like. He can do that by:
1. Holding us back from doing the right things for instance by using fear.
2. Pushing us into doing the wrong things for instance by using temptation.
3. Controlling us in a captivity that is not in obedience to Jesus for example drug addiction.
Therefore if you are currently physically living in a situation where the devil has won a wrestling match in your life, you can start to fight back and win the next match.
To win your next wrestling match with the devil and evil spiritual powers, do the following:
Identify Negative ThoughtsIdentify the negative thoughts that have:
a. Pinned you down and held you back from pursuing the right things
b. Pinned you down and pushed you into wrong things
c. Pinned you down in a captivity that is not in obedience to Jesus Christ
Identify Positive ScripturesIdentify positive Bible verses that nullify these negative thoughts and:
a. Meditate on them so that you can make your mind new
b. Confess them with your mouth since the tongue has the power of life and death
With God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26) is a great Bible verses that you can use to nullify many negative thoughts. For example you can meditate on and confess I am free from this addiction/situation/problem because With God all things are possible.
Have FaithHold your shield of faith by deciding to believe the positive Scriptures you are meditating and confessing because were are told Above all things, take the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the enemy. (Ephesians 6:16)
This means that believing the Bible verses you can nullify all the darts of negative thoughts the devil sends into your mind to hold you back from pursuing the things that are good, acceptable and perfect in the eyes of God.
Believing God's word also neutralizes the negative thoughts that push you into doing wrong things.
Believing God's word also negates the negative thoughts that hold you in a captivity that is not in obedience to Jesus Christ.
