Free Christian Ebooks - How to Heal the Pain from a Painful Past

Free Christian Ebooks

The first step in healing the pain from a painful past is to forgive the people who hurt you and leave them in the past where they belong. Do not continue carrying them in your mind and thereby marrying them to your present as they will continue to mar your life. Cut the cords of bitterness binding them to your heart with the knife of forgiveness and reduce the tension in your life by forgetting them so that you can reach forward into your future unencumbered.

If the urge to revenge hinders you from forgiving them, remind yourself that God says vengeance is His and He will repay. (Romans 12:19) Cry out to Him in prayer so that He can deal with all those who hurt you. Scriptures you can pray include Lamentations 3:59 which asks God to judge your case Himself as He has seen how you been wronged.

Don't waste your time or energy plotting have retaliation as this is detrimental for healing the past. Instead, remind yourself of the Pharaoh of Egypt who killed many Israelite babies and yet in his own palace, he ended up feeding and educating Moses, an Israelite, who later freed all the Israelite slaves from their Egyptian masters.

Learn also from Joseph after his father Jacob died, when his brothers were afraid that he would punish them for selling him into slavery for he told them not to be afraid and asked them if he was in the place of God to avenge himself. (Genesis 50:19)

Therefore, do not attempt to take God’s place and avenge yourself. Leave the issue with Him for He knows how best to balance the scales of justice for God is a just judge. Trust Him and His judgment and His chastisement and you will be able to declare to Him that you smile at your enemies because you rejoice in His salvation. (1 Samuel 2:1)

If you have difficulties forgetting the pain from your past, seek Christian counseling so that you can be healed emotionally. Then ask God to help you forget the painful past as He helped Joseph forget his for Joseph even named his first son Manasseh which means to forget.

The second step of healing the pain from a painful past is to be fruitful in your present. Joseph named his second son Ephraim which means fruitful for God had helped him be fruitful. So engage your mind and body in a constructive, productive cause like Joseph who was fully engaged in preparing for the looming famine by storing grain. Joseph was also married to Asenath and they had two lovely sons so balance your life by filling it with fulfilling relationships.

The third step for healing the past is to help a less fortunate member of your society even if they contributed to your pain. Learn from Joseph the Prime Minister who helped his brothers when they came to Egypt looking for food to escape starvation.

Therefore, look for a person whose life situation is worse than yours and help them as this will shift your focus from your painful past to your productive present. Helping a less fortunate member of society will also help you count and be grateful for your current blessings.

Helping the people who hurt you like Joseph did may also put some issues in perspective because seeing the famine- stricken condition of his brothers may have helped Joseph realize that their act of selling him into slavery was really an act of God sending him ahead of them to prepare for the famine. (Genesis 45:8)

The Similarities of Pregnancy and Answered Prayers

The Similarities of Pregnancy and Answered Prayers

There are several similarities between the waiting that a pregnant woman goes through before she delivers her baby and the waiting we may have to go through before our prayers are answered. These similarities teach us valuable lessons about how we should wait on God to answer our prayers.

Wait for God
The first similarity is that answering prayers is a supernatural process and we cannot really rush God just as pregnancy is a natural process and we cannot really rush nature because even with IVF the live birth percentage is at best 65%.

The lesson here is that after we have prayed and done our best, we just have to wait patiently for God’s perfect timing.
Those who wait on God shall renew their strength. They shall rise up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not get tired. They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

You Don't Have to Understand
The second similarity is that we don’t have to understand the intricacies of embryology to get pregnant just as we don’t have to understand how faith works for it to work.

The lesson here is that we just have to combine our prayer with faith because we are told to Ask in faith (James 1:6) to get our prayers answered just as a sperm has to merge with an egg for a baby to born.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God Who gives to all freely James 1:5-7

Problems May Pop Up
The third similarity is that sometimes problems pop up everywhere just after we have prayed just us a healthy woman suddenly develops persistent nausea and vomiting just after she conceives.

The lesson here is that even if our situation worsens just after we pray over it, we should persevere believing that all will end well just like a pregnant woman perseveres through the morning sickness and swollen legs believing she will soon hold her healthy, bouncing baby in her arms.

Therefore, wait expectantly and do not abort your prayers by doubting God since a skeptic should not suppose that they will receive anything from the Lord. (James 1:6-8)
I am hard pressed on every side by not crushed 2 Corinthians 4:8

The Answer Can Come In Stages
The fourth similarity between pregnancy and waiting for our prayers to be answered is that the initial positive signs of our answered prayers may not resemble what we have been praying for just like a pregnant woman’s bulging belly does not resemble the tiny tot she will deliver.

The lesson here is that we should view these positive signs as proof that our answer is on the way and rejoice even if what we see does not resemble what we are praying for.

Therefore, celebrate when you receive your first low paying, temporary job and view it as a sign that your prayer request of being financially free is on the way.
Labor Spiritually
The fifth similarity is that we may have to do the really hard spiritual labor just before the answer to our prayers materializes just like a pregnant woman has to labor physically really hard in the labor ward just before her baby is born.

The lesson here is that we have to persist in prayer and even fasting until we get our breakthrough and our answer materializes.

Learn from Daniel who persisted in prayer and fasting for 21 days until the Angel who was bearing the answer to his prayers fought with Angel Michael until they defeated the evil spiritual powers over Persia that did not want Daniel to receive the answer to his prayers. (Daniel 10)
This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. Matthew 17:21

Push Through Pain
The sixth similarity is that we may have to push through much pain to get the job done just as a pregnant woman has to push through much pain to deliver her baby.

Therefore, push through pain, pennilessness and all other problems to do the physical work you need to get done to ensure you receive the answer to your prayers even if it means working overnight and on an empty stomach until the answer to your prayers materializes physically.
Weeping may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning Psalm 30:5

How to pray effectively

What Does the Bible Say About Marriage?

What Does the Bible Say About Marriage?

The top 5 Scriptures that can best help you answer the question “What does the Bible say about marriage?” are:

1. A man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two of them shall become one flesh. (Adapted Ephesians 5:31)
Therefore, once a couple gets married, they should ensure that they are more tightly joined to each other than to their in-laws, exes and coworkers and all other friends.

They should also make sure that they maintain tight physical, mental and emotional bonds between each other as this will reduce the incidences of marital conflicts that arise out of mistrust. Their tight bonds will also help them better resolve whatever other problems may arise in their marriage.

For those problems that a couple cannot resolve on their own, they should seek the advice of a neutral professional who can give them an unbiased opinion. This can be a marriage therapist, Christian marriage counselor or their Pastor.
HERE

2. Marriage is an honorable thing and the marriage bed should not be defiled. (Adapted Hebrews 13:4)
Therefore, once a couple gets married, they each should do their best to maintain purity in their relationship by reminding themselves that they entered into an honorable contract in the presence of God.

3. God says that He hates divorce. (Adapted Malachi 2:16)
Therefore, a couple should ensure that they do all that they can to resolve their conflicts so that the conflicts do not divide them until they divorce.
HERE

4. Wives are to submit to their husband. (Adapted Ephesians 5:22)
Therefore, wives should do their best to submit to their husband’s direction as the head of their home.

5. Husbands are to love their wives just as Christ loves the church (Adapted Ephesians 5:25)
Therefore, husbands are to demonstrate their love for their wives in words and deed.

This therefore, leads us to to the question, “What does the Bible say about love?” The answer to this question which is found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 is that:
  • love suffers long which means that true love is patient
  • love is kind
  • love does not envy
  • love does not parade itself
  • love is not puffed up or conceited
  • love does not behave rudely as it respects the object of its affection
  • love does not seek its own as it seeks the good of all concerned parties
  • love is not provoked
  • love thinks no evil
  • love does not rejoice in iniquity as it wants to do the right thing in the sight of God
  • love rejoices in the truth
  • love bears all things
  • love believes all things
  • love hopes all things
  • love endures all things as it perseveres through the hard times in the marriage.
