How to Silence Loud, Negative Voices

How to Silence Loud, Negative Voices

When the Israelites spies returned from the Promised Land, 10 of them told the Israelites that they could not possess their Promised Land while only 2 spies told them they could do it.

As a result of listening to the 10 spies, they chose not to pursue the Promise of God for their life by saying "Let us chose a leader and return to Egypt" (Numbers 14:4) and God said "They shall not see the Promised Land"(Numbers 14:26)

This situation teaches us that the loudest is not always the rightest.

This means that the voices speaking into your life the loudest may not be the right voices for you to listen to. This is because some of these loudest voices may lead you to make the wrong decisions for your life.

Sources of Negative Loud Voices

The Media
The media in the form of TV shows, movies, music, magazines, books and blogs can be a source of loud, negative voices that can influence you to make the wrong decision for your life by tempting you to sin.

To silence this source of loud negative voices, carefully chose the TV shows and movies you watch, the music you listen to and the magazines, books and blogs you read so that you do not feed yourself with the wrong information and inclinations for we are told Guard your heart diligently for the issues of life flow from it. (Proverbs 4:23)

Family and Friends
Loud voices speaking negativity into your life can also be from your close friends and family members.

We can see a good example of this when David was asking the reward for killing Goliath and his older brother Eliab overheard him and spoke negatively to him in public by asking, "With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and disrespect." (1 Samuel 17:28)

This question and comment was meant to show David's audience that he was a proud and disrepectful shepherd who had left he small herd in the wilderness.

To deal with this type of loud, negative voices from friends, family members and other people, emulate David for He turned away from Eliab. (1 Samuel 17:30)

To turn away from the source of loud, negative voices detach from them emotionally and mentally by meditating on Scriptures like these 10 Bible Verses for Self Esteem and Self Confidence

Your Thoughts
Loud, negative voices which can lead you away from the purposes of God for your life can also be from your own head in the type of thoughts you entertain.

We can see a good example of this from the Israelite spies who said, "We were like grasshoppers in our own sight and so were we in the sight of the giants.(Numbers 13:33)

These spies saw themselves like grasshoppers and it is not wonder that they were convinced that they could not conquer the giants and take possession of their Promised Land.

To prevent your negative thoughts from defeating you, you have to make a concerted effort to think positive thoughts for we are told to Meditate on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous and praise worthy. (Philippians 4:8)

These positive thoughts that you are meditating on should be from the Bible because God told Joshua, This Book of the Law shall not leave your mouth. You shall meditate on it day and night so that You do what is written and then you shall be successful. (Joshua 1:8)

Therefore go through your Bible and find Scriptures that you can meditate on to nullify the negative thoughts in your mind.

If you are dealing with low self confidence you can begin by confessing and meditating these 10 Bible Verses for Self Esteem and Self Confidence.

After you have removed all the sources of loud negative voices from your life, you now have to create time to listen to the still, silent voice of God. To do this read How to Calm Emotions so that You can Hear God.

Once you hear what God is saying to you, you can then chose the people to listen to based on whether their words are in alignment with what God has told you.

As you do so always remember that when you are choosing who to listen to, what matters is what God says and not the number of people repeating something.
