How to Ensure Your Prayers are Answered Book Excerpt
The following are some of the things that can be viewed as insurance for ensuring that your prayers are answered:
1. Confess your Sins

The Lord’s hand is not shortened that it cannot save you, or His ear heavy that He cannot hear you.
But your iniquities have separated you from your God and your sins have hidden   His face from you so that  He will not hear.
(Isaiah 59:1-2)

God answers prayers but sin can separate us from Him so that when we pray, He does not hear our prayers just as it had separated the Israelites from God.

The type of sins that hindered their prayers were:
a) “Big sins” of commission such as murder {Your hands are defiled with blood. Isaiah 59:3)}
b) “Small sins” such as lying {Your lips have spoken lies. (Isaiah 59:3)}
c) Sins that probably only God knew about such as whispering nasty words {Your tongue has muttered perversity. (Isaiah 59:3)}
d) Sins of omission for No one calls for justice, nor does anyone plead for truth. (Isaiah 59:4)

Therefore, confess all your known sins to God and ask Him to forgive you all your sins even those that you cannot remember so that your prayers are heard and consequently answered.

2. Forgive those who sin against you

When you stand to pray, forgive, if you have anything against anyone so that your Father Who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
 (Mark 11:25)
If you want God to forgive you your sins by answering your prayers for forgiveness, you have to forgive those who have hurt you so that God can forgive you.
This forgiving of those who have hurt you or sinned against you in any way is very important since if you do not forgive them, God will not forgive you and your unforgiven sins will hinder all your other prayers.

Therefore, make it a habit to continuously forgive people when they harm you since holding grudges is a self defeating action.

Strengthen your resolve to forgive by reminding yourself of Jesus’ words when Peter asked, “Lord, how often shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Seven times?”
Jesus answered, “I say not seven times, but seventy times seven.”  (Matthew 18:21-22)
Therefore, continuously forgive others so that God can continuously forgive you and answer your prayers.

Are you tired of suffering from the disease to please?
If you are, learn from Bartimaeus.
As Jesus left Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging.

When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth Who was passing, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me.”

Many people told him to hold his peace, but he cried all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me.”

Jesus then stood still and commanded him to be called. They called the blind man and said to him, “Be of good comfort, rise for He is calling you.”

Bartimaeus casting away his garment, rose and came to Jesus.
Jesus then said unto him, “What do you want Me to do for you?" and the blind man said replied, “Lord, that I might receive my sight.”

And Jesus said to him, “Go your way for your faith has made you whole.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus. (Mark 10:46-52)

Value Your Well-Being
The first thing you have to do to stop being a people pleaser is to value your physical, emotional, mental, and financial well-being.
In addition, you should not only value your well being but you should also place more importance on your well-being than on pleasing others so when you are faced with the choice of doing something that does not please those around you but is for your own good verses doing something that pleases them but is detrimental to your well-being, you will choose the option that is good for you.
To help you make the right decision always remind yourself that Barnabas would have remained a blind beggar if he had chosen to be a people pleaser and stopped calling out to Jesus when the crowd told to him to keep quiet.
Therefore, commit today to choosing the course of action that ensures well-being regardless of whether it displeases the masses.

If you are determined to metamorphosize from a shy loner to the lovely, sociable being that you have always instinctively known resides inside you, follow the simple steps in this book.
These practical suggestions will help you break out of your shyness cocoon and complete the rest of your life free to do whatever you want to do the way a butterfly enjoys the freedom to fly to whatever flower it fancies.
Use Systemic Desensitization to Cure Shyness
The first step in using systemic desensitization to overcome shyness involves learning abdominal breathing.

Abdominal breathing or deep breathing is the fastest way to counter the body’s stress response. It is also one of the simplest relaxation techniques to learn and perform since it simply involves inhaling deeply through your nose until your abdomen rises, holding your breath for a few seconds, and then exhaling completely until your abdomen falls.
The second step of this systemic desensitization program involves imagining yourself doing what you normally feel shy doing. For example, if shyness stops you from talking to strangers or giving speeches, close your eyes and see yourself with your mind’s eye talking to a stranger or giving a speech to one person.
As you begin to feel the distress that emanates from your shyness, take several deep abdominal breaths to counter that distress and continue visualizing yourself taking to the stranger or giving the speech.
Once you can comfortably imagine yourself talking to a stranger or giving a speech to one person without getting stressed or feeling shy, imagine yourself doing that activity to an increasing number of people. To learn more read How to Overcome Shyness.
