Devices of the Devil - Distraction

Devices of the Devil - Distraction

Distraction is another of the devil’s devices.

From the book of Nehemiah we can see that the enemy’s agents in the form of Sanaballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab and others did their level best to distract and hinder Nehemiah from doing What God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem. (Nehemiah 2:12)

Nehemiah and the Israelites were mocked (Nehemiah 4:1), their enemies Conspired together to come and attack Jerusalem (Nehemiah 4:8), and when that failed, they conspired to attack Nehemiah by sending him a message saying, “Come let us meet in the villages in the Ono plain” (Nehemiah 6:2) where they planned to harm him.

But Nehemiah did not let them distract him from doing his work for he sent messengers with the following reply, “I am doing a great work and therefore, I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?” (Nehemiah 6:3)

Therefore learn from Nehemiah and do not let the enemy distract you from doing what God has called you to do. Be determined to complete your assignment like Nehemiah and the Israelites who finished rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem in the midst of great opposition because They had a mind to work. (Nehemiah 4:6)

So, focus your mind on your work and do not let the enemy’s antics and tactics move your focus from your work and turn it to their activities.
The people set their mind to work Nehemiah 4:6

In addition, do not waste your physical and mental energy avenging the people who are focused on making sure that you do not complete your purpose. Forward them to God in prayer so that you can release them from your mind and focus it on completing God’s work by praying the way Nehemiah did.

For he prayed, My God, remember Tobiah and Sanballat according to their works and the prophetess Noadiah and all the other prophets who would have made me afraid. (Nehemiah 6:15)

Then, let God do the remembering of all the bad things that have been done to you and that are still being done to you because He says, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay. (Romans 12:19)

  3. 100% agree that the enemy sends people to distract us from the tasks that God assigns us too. And we often fall right into the trap and become so focuses on "them" that we allow our real assignment to fall by the wayside. We need to be careful to see the really battle that is going on behind the scenes that Paul showed us in Ephesians 6:10-18. thanks for the reminder!

    1. Yes, we must do our best to remain focused on our assignment by forwarding the distractions to God in prayer so that our mind can concentrate on the job at hand.
