Fulfill your Purpose: Pain and Glory

When a woman from the city, who was a sinner, knew that Jesus was at the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster flask with fragrant oil and stood at His feet behind Him weeping.

Then she begun to wash His feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. She then kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil. (Luke 7:37-38)

This woman served Jesus with the three things that she had:
1. She Served Jesus with her Treasure which was the expensive perfume.

2. She Served Jesus with her Glory which was her hair.

3. She Served Jesus with her Pain which was her tears.

Therefore learn from this woman and:

1. Serve Jesus with your Treasure
Your money and other financial assets make up your treasure and you can use them to serve the Church which is the Body of Christ (Romans 12:5) the way this woman poured out her perfume to serve the physical body of Christ.

You can do this by feeding the hungry and clothing the naked as you tell them about salvation and Jesus Christ.
If you do not have the time to do this personally, you can send your money to Christian ministries that are already doing this and support their projects.

2. Serve Jesus with your Glory
Your exemplary God-given attributes like your talents and beauty make up your glory and you can also use them to serve the Church the way this woman used her hair to serve the physical body of Christ.

For example, if you have a great voice you can volunteer to serve in the praise and worship ministry.
If you are a famous runner, you can use your fame to register for marathons organized by Christian ministries so that you can popularize them.
If you are a great cook, you can serve by preparing meals for your Church's outreaches.
If you are a model, you can lend your face to Christian adverts for crusades and other activities to reach the masses.

3. Serve Jesus with your Pain
The traumatic experiences that you have lived through make up your pain and you can use them to serve the Church the way this woman used her tears to serve the physical body of Christ.

For example, if you have survived the loss of a child, you can serve in your Church's counseling ministry and minister to parents who are going through the pain of losing a child.
If you have lived through the trauma of suffering from a life-threatening illness like cancer, you can counsel other people who have recently being diagnosed with this condition and teach them how to cope with it spiritually, mentally and physically.

From this story we can see, this woman began by serving Jesus with her pain because, in many situations, that is all a person usually has when they make the decision to serve Jesus.

Therefore do not be discouraged if your life is only filled with pain and you do not have a treasure or glory. Just use what you have and trust God to provide the rest.
