The following are some aromatherapy recipes for using essential oils as natural treatment for depression.  

1. Balancing Body Massage Oil. 
Add 20 drops (2.5 ml or ½ teaspoons) of rosemary essential oil and 40 drops (5 ml or 1 teaspoon) of lavender essential oil to one cup (8oz or 250 ml) of sweet almond oil or sunflower oil or any other carrier oil of your choice to create a balancing body massage oil.

2. Body Scrub. 
Scrub depression away by adding 50 drops (2.5 ml or ½ teaspoons) of rosemary essential oil and 100 drops (5 ml or 1 teaspoon) of lavender essential oil to one cup (8 oz or 250 ml) of sweet almond oil or sunflower oil or any other carrier oil. Then mix it with ½ cup of Epsom salts or brown sugar or white sugar. Rub if all over your body to remove the dead skin cells then rinse it off to reveal baby soft skin.

3. Body Compress
Add 25 drops (1.25 ml or ¼ teaspoons) of rosemary essential oil and 50 drops (2.5 ml or ½ teaspoons) of lavender essential oil to ½ cup (4 oz or 125 ml) of warm water, dip your hand towel or bath cloth or sponge in it and wipe your entire body with it after stepping out of the shower or bath tub.

4. Personal perfume
Add 1 drop of lavender essential oil and 1 drop of rosemary essential oil to 10 ml of alcohol in a spray bottle to make a perfume.

5. Facial Steamer. 
Add 25 drops of lavender essential oil and 25 drops of rosemary essential oil (or the number or drops recommended by the manufacturer) to one cup (8oz or 250 ml) of water and put it on your facial steamer or sauna.



Safety Information for Rosemary essential oil:
1. Do not use rosemary essential oil if you are pregnant.
2. Do not use rosemary essential oil if you have epilepsy.
3. Do not use rosemary essential oil if you have high blood pressure.
4. Avoid using rosemary essential oil if you have a fever.
5. Avoid using rosemary essential oil if you want to sleep.
6. Avoid using rosemary essential oil in children under 5 years.

Safety Information for Lavender essential oil:
1. Do not use it in pregnancy especially the first 3 months.
2. Do not use it if you are breastfeeding.
3. Do not use it on young children as it may cause breast development in boys (gynaecomastia) and girls (pre-pubescent breast development).
4. Avoid it if you have low blood pressure as you may feel drowsy after using it.

Christian Biblical Principles for Dealing with Depression



Christian Depression Treatment
Self examination is the 4th principle of Christian Depression Treatment.

When Jeremiah lamented because he was depressed, he saw the importance of self examination for he said, “Let us examine our ways and return to the Lord.” (Lamentations 3)

Therefore, schedule time for self examination so that you can return to the Lord.
