Devotional: Woe to the Person who Strives with his Maker

Devotional: Woe to the Person who Strives with his Maker

Woe to the person who strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to him who forms it, "What are you making?" Or shall the work say, "He has no hands"? (Isaiah 45:9)

Are you struggling against God?

Are you complaining because of how life has life broken you?

Are you murmuring that God does not know what He is doing with your life because it seems to be in a complete mess?

If you are, understand that all these are forms of striving with your Heavenly Father and the result is great distress for you for Woe to the person who strives with his Maker! (Isaiah 45:9)

Therefore stop striving with God and start trusting Him.

Tell Him that you do not understand why your life is unfolding the way it is but that you are still going to trust Him anyway.

Woe to the person who strives with his maker Isaiah 45:9

If you must strive, strive with another potsherd for Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth! (Isaiah 45:9)

A potsherd is a broken piece of a pot that is usually useless. This means that if you want to strive, find another human being who is not fulfilling their life's purpose and strive with them rather than strive with God Who is in Heaven.

Better still, stop being a useless, striving potsherd and ask God to show you what purpose you can fulfill even if you are broken.

Ask Him to show you how you can serve Him with your brokenness instead of striving with Him and other people because of your brokenness.

For example, a broken piece of a pot can be used to scoop water into an unbroken pot. A real life example would be helping a large Christian ministry for example as an usher even if you are broken on the inside.

Prayer
Heavenly Father I ask You in the name of Jesus to forgive me for striving with you. I ask You to also forgive me for speaking against You because I did not understand why all these bad things have happened in my life.

Father God I also ask You to show me how I can serve you with my brokenness instead of striving with You and other people because of my brokenness. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
